Got out of the car to take a stretch on Route 86 in upstate NY, and looked across this pasture at Whiteface Mountain, the 5th highest mountain in New York State. Known for its big-mountain skiing, Whiteface is consistently ranked as one of the top ski resorts in the Northeast. Located in the town of Wilmington, about 13 miles from Lake Placid, the mountain’s east slope is home to a major ski area which hosted the alpine skiing competition of the 1980 Winter Olympics (recall, “Do you believe in miracles?…”).
