Hickory Nut Husk

In a nutshell, try this trick with hickory nuts – smoke them! Clean 1 or 2 lbs and soak in water overnight. Take out and let dry; they’ll keep well in a paper sack. The next time you BBQ or cook on the grill, add 1/4 lb. to the fire box, or charcoal, or gas grill lava stones. They’ll likely crackle and pop so be careful; grab the fruit w/ tongs. Even better, the hickory smoke flavor in a plain old hamburger tastes incredible, not to mention steaks and fajitas. Very tasty.
