Camel Cricket

These hoppers are a real nuisance in the basement, but they don’t hurt a thing….  except your back as you try to follow one around with a macro lens.  Hoping for a moment of perfect stillness proved fruitless – better luck next time!

Factoid: Being cave- or basement-dwellers, camel crickets jump toward anything they perceive as a threat to scare it away (which I presume is why most folks jump back). They’re really quite harmless.
