Nature sculpts some cool ice on a chilly day

Last week, our bird-bath water froze up into a big circular chunk about 1-1/2″ thick.  I broke it up into some large chunks and took some macro shots, these were some of the results.

The images were all shot 1:1 using Canon’s 100mm macro lens, ISO 200.

Top view - note the water is already freezing over at top left and bottom right - 1/100 @ F8

Horizontal view from one side - 1/100 @ F8

This reminded me of a 60's/70's beaded doorway curtain - 1/125 @ F8

Moved the camera and got the dish and brick wall in the background which changed the colors significantly - 1/40 @ F8

A v-shaped cut in the bath dish produced this result - 1/320 @ F8
